DOHaD's Global Outreach

Our Society's primary goal is to coordinate research and advocacy efforts across different countries, aiming to ensure a healthy start to life for all. We are especially focused on facilitating the exchange of ideas, staff, and expertise between various institutions, laboratories, and research groups worldwide. Our approach is global, as we aim to connect and support regional groups where individuals sharing a common language, geographical location, or coordinated strategic mission can come together to form DOHaD Regional Societies.

The mission and values of our Regional Societies closely align with those of the International DOHaD Society. These groups play an essential role in promoting international research collaboration and fostering DOHaD research interests on a global scale. They achieve this by implementing targeted advocacy, education, and research initiatives tailored to the specific needs and challenges of each group's regional and its members. Additionally, they contribute to the growth of the Society membership and facilitate a sense of collegiality within the international research community.

Members are invited to join or maintain their affiliation with the Regional Society in their respective geography (if applicable) when they purchase or renew their membership with the International Society, at no additional cost.

New European Regional Society

We are delighted to announce the establishment of the European Regional DOHaD Society and the appointment of Dr Melanie Conrad as our inaugural President. Dr Conrad, a renowned researcher in reproductive immunology, brings extensive expertise in DOHaD research. The Society is actively developing, and Dr Conrad will soon appoint Officers who will play pivotal roles in advancing the objectives of our new Society.

In our recent Members Newsletter we shared a message from Dr Conrad, her profile, and European Society's mission. Dr Conrad's message highlighted her dedication to advancing understanding in DOHaD, with a mission statement that emphasises empowering researchers, fostering collaboration, and enhancing public health awareness through proactive outreach initiatives.

We hope you share in our excitement in reaching this significant milestone and anticipate the growth of a vibrant DOHaD community throughout Europe. Together, let us cultivate a future where health and wellbeing flourish through dedicated research and collaboration.

Leadership Transition in Two DOHaD Regional Societies

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to two International DOHaD Society members who have recently stepped down from their role as President of a DOHaD Regional Society. We warmly welcome their successors.
 
Firstly, we thank Professor Marcus Paes for his dedicated service as the Latin American DOHaD Regional Society President. Professor Paes’ leadership has involved a remarkable expansion of activities and engagement within the Society, and we appreciate his tireless efforts in fostering collaboration and innovation across our Latin American membership.
 
As Professor Paes steps down to focus on the 2025 Buenos Aires DOHaD Congress,  we are excited to welcome Professor Cristiane Matté as the new President of the Latin American DOHaD Regional Society. Professor Matté is based at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil.  We are confident that her wealth of knowledge and passion for the field will continue to propel the Society forward.
 
We also extend our gratitude to Dr Phu Tran, Associate Professor, for his outstanding tenure as the US DOHaD Regional Society President. Dr Tran has made a major contributtion to the growth and development of the society. His leadership, expertise, and commitment have been instrumental in spreading the mission of our Society in North America.

Stepping into this important role, we are delighted to welcome Dr Danielle Christifano as the new President of the US DOHaD Regional Society. Dr Christifano is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Kansas Medical Centre. We look forward to her contributions to the society's continued success.

Benefits of establishing a Regional Society

International Recognition
The DOHaD Society is recognized for its promotion of the importance of a healthy start to life. The Society is composed of world leaders in the field of developmental programming, including clinicians, specialists in public health, educators and basic scientists. Regional Societies share in this international recognition, and are listed on the International Society website.

Representation on DOHaD Society Council
Each Regional Society is granted a seat on the International DOHaD Council, and thus has influence over the Society’s activities and Council decisions.

Congress Participation
At each World Congress, Regional Societies participate in a special meeting of the Regional Societies, and have an agenda discussion at the International Society’s Annual General Meeting. Additionally, all Regional Societies are offered free booth space at the World Congresses to advertise their group and increase their local membership.

Political Influence
The Society plays a large role in political lobbying and the exchange of knowledge between policymakers, researchers, health professionals and the wider public. DOHaD Regional Societies enjoy the benefit of unified political lobbying, where the Society can/will facilitate and support these Groups’ political or fundraising activities.

Branding
Each Regional Society may use the Society logo and name in advertising events and meetings.

Meetings
Each Regional Society may receive assistance and guidance from the Society for organizing local meetings, as well as free promotion of meetings on the Society website and Journal.

Become a DOHaD Regional Society

The DOHaD Society welcomes local, national, regional, and international groups and organisations to apply for affiliation status. Applicants must be International DOHaD Society Members.
