DOHaD actively seeks commercial sponsorship to enable meetings and workshops, including the DOHaD World Congress. However, this may give rise to potential conflict of interest particularly with the food and nutrition industry, as the Society advocates healthy lifestyle including healthy food and nutrition and breastfeeding. At the same time, the Society also recognises that members may wish to work closely with the food and nutrition industry to optimise nutritional products.
A potential conflict of interest can create ambiguity and adversely affect perception of the goals and values of the Society. An important resource addressing these matters is the Public–Private Collaboration in Clinical Research During Pregnancy, Lactation, and Childhood: Joint Position Statement of the Early Nutrition Academy and the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (view on Pubmed)
To manage this potential conflict, the DOHaD Society is committed to maintaining transparency regarding the nature of its engagement with industry and to adhere to a set of guidelines and principles (Click here to view).
Any Society member wishing to enter into a relationship with industry is recommended to read the attached document, and to agree to abide by the conditions set out.
